Minutes of board meetings are considered public documents. However, there are portions of our meetings which are conducted in Executive Session and therefore remain confidential. Executive Sessions are noted in the minutes but do not include details of the sessions themselves.
Pending disciplinary actions are given case numbers to protect confidentiality and to provide due process to all involved parties. No names are revealed to the full board membership until the case has been set for a public hearing or the case has been finalized. All pending disciplinary actions remain confidential until finalized.
Meetings generally revolve around the routine business of the board, including the approval of its finances and new licensees, as well as legal interpretations and disciplinary actions. All of these items are included in the minutes of each meeting.
Complaint Committee meetings are held in Executive Session, for the most part, and are not included in the minutes. The Complain Committee maintains separate minutes which are considered confidential due to on-going investigations.
ANNUAL REPORTS: The Board’s annual reports to the Governor and Legislature can be accessed by going to the West Virginia Legislature web page (www.wvlegislature.gov) and clicking on "Audits/Reports," then clicking in the bar "State Agency" and scrolling down to Funeral Service Examiners. Click there and both reports are available for your reading enjoyment. The reports contain Minutes, Financial Reports, Complaints and listings of Funeral Homes and Funeral Directors.
